DormIt Branding

About

DormIt (now called Packed) is UCSD Startup that markets itself as a faster and cheaper food delivery service for UCSD students. It is similar to apps like DoorDash and Uber Eats, but DormIt is specialized for late-night cravings.

I joined the team as a solo graphic designer, and I made their first merchandise illustrations.

Initial Designs

I was given total freedom to come up with a selection of different creative ideas. I wanted to take advantage of the fact that they deliver snacks to create designs that look delicious and fun!

Memorability was also a key factor to me. I thought that a new brand should have branding that is intuitive and easy to remember. So I decided to make a couple of drafts that play on the word 'door.'

T-Shirt Designs

I thought of how my favorite graphic t-shirts display their brand name. There are plenty of brand t-shirts that simply just mention the name of the brand. It might work for big brand names, but to wear our t-shirts, I thought, people will want the t-shirt to have fun age-appropriate graphics. A little bit like what you would find at a skate shop...

Raccoon Designs

UCSD students have a nostalgic connection with raccoons because they have tons of memories with them at each corner of the university. I was asked to also explore ways we could incorporate raccoons into our merchandise.

So, I drew a Raccoon delivering a DormIt package to a hungry customer on a scooter.

Then a raccoon catching a Dorito meteorite!

The team liked my raccoon illustration, so they wanted me to create a final and cohesive graphic they could use everywhere. And so I made this graphic:
